Black History Month

This month is Black History Month.  Black History Month or National African History Month is an annual celebration to celebrate achievement and recognizing the role of African Americans in U.S History.

The class were treated with a special lesson about Kwanzaa which is a week long celebration honoring African-American culture.  Ms  Kinney read us stories, showed artifacts and showed the class pictures of her family and why Kwanzaa is important to her.

Here are pictures of several African Americans that have impacted on society through their accomplishments and achievements.  One of the many is Dr Martin Luther King who fought for freedom to Harriet Tubman who throughout the civil war rescued more than 70 slaves to safe houses known as the 'Underground Railway'.

Mrs Davis, our Principal read a story about Booker.T.Washington who was born into slavery but as a adult became a teacher. Booker T Washington worked his entire life to help people go to school.

On Thursday students from Forest Hills High School performed to our school.  They taught us about influential African Americans in U.S History through dance, drama and singing.
We learned a lot and enjoyed watching their performances.

Watch the video of students performing to our school!
