Learning the Haka

Last Wednesday Ms. Lologa's brother taught us the 'haka'.  The haka is a traditional dance from New Zealand usually performed by the men.  Sometimes in graduation the haka is performed when someone is getting their diploma because they want to show their support and respect to that person.  It was really fun because it was something we had never done before so it was kind of interesting.

I enjoyed doing the haka because it included teamwork.  The girls joined in to support the boys doing the haka.  The girls movements and actions were different to the boys.  Mr G. (Miss Lologa's brother) traveled here from New Zealand to visit our teacher and us.  He talked to the second grade about New Zealand.  I found out that the South Island is bigger than the North Island.

It was fun because I usually don't get to learn about other countries.  It was very different from other dances in the USA.

  8. We really enjoyed watching you learning how to do the haka. We think you had an excellent teacher who really got the spirit of the haka across. It looked like you had a lot of fun and that you have learned lots of information about beautiful New Zealand. With every good wish for a Happy Thanksgiving.
